The Time Out magazine recently published a list of the 51 Coolest Neighborhoods in the World, and Pagrati in Athens comes in at number 39.
The fifth annual Time Out Index asked more than 20,000 city dwellers globally and the magazine’s local editors and writers to compile a list of the most interesting and unique local counties in the world.
Pagrati’s distinction follows Athens’ 35th place in Time Out’s 2022 World’s Best Cities Index.
Colonia Americana in Guadalajara, Mexico, dubbed the most interesting neighborhood in the world, is recognized as the heart of the city’s underground landscape.
Pagrati in the 21st century has experienced a renaissance since it was reimagined as a ‘stylish’ destination thanks to its culturally relevant attractions, culinary features and alternative nightlife.
Time Out contributor Katie Silcox says that “despite its proximity to central Athens and the Panathenaic Stadium – which hosted the first modern Olympic Games – Pagrati is always on the radar of tourists. This is a place once considered bland, today it is a magnet for creatives who flock to its trendy bars, blasting everything from rock and blues to hip hop and to craft beer restaurants have been in vogue in recent years.”
The magazine recommends Pagrati as a must-visit destination in Athens, offering visitors the perfect day from “breakfast with a view of the Acropolis at Athens BlueBuilding” to “making your way to Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation to unwind into works of art from Picasso, Miró, Van Gogh and all the rest. Grab a coffee at the Chelsea Hotel, then end the day with dinner at The Vegan Vandal and a drink at one of the many bars on deserted Timotheou Street.”
